Our Bio

Let us introduce ourselves and tell you what brought us here!

"Hi there! Welcome to UVic Personal Finance Club. I'm Edwin, the founder and president of UVPF. Personal finance has always been a significant passion of mine. Growing up, my parents instilled in me the belief that 'money works in favor of those who can say "no" now in exchange for the ability to say "yes" later.' I've been fascinated by how discipline, patience, time, and compound interest can transform something small into something substantial over time. By allowing money to work for us with time, we can achieve remarkable growth.

I'm continually learning about personal finance every day. Recognizing the immense financial and lifestyle pressures that young adults face today, there has never been a greater need for knowledge to better manage our finances in an ever-evolving economy. I founded this club with the goal of promoting financial literacy and lifestyle mindfulness, ultimately aiming to help individuals make sound financial decisions to achieve their goals. Come join us on a journey toward financial success!"

"Hi there, I'm Josiah, and I'm currently studying Economics with a minor in Business Finance. Studying Economics with a minor in Business Finance has opened my eyes to the complexity of the financial world. During the summer of 2023, I interned at a financial planning office, and it became apparent to me that many people are mismanaging their personal finances due to a lack of knowledge. This club is our attempt to bridge the gap between young students and industry professionals in the hopes of educating as many people as we can and setting them up for financial success."

"Hello everyone, my name is Zoe, and I was born and raised in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico. Currently, I'm in my last semester of year three in the Business Commerce Program. For me, Personal Finance transcends mere numbers; it's about empowerment and making economic decisions that shape our future. I am deeply committed to volunteering activities and have dedicated significant time to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Giving back to the community is a core value of mine. Therefore, being part of the Personal Finance Club, where we can raise awareness about budgeting and discuss the potential benefits or risks of finance, holds great importance to me. I look forward to meeting some of you in the near future and participating in our finance events!"

"My name is Sarthak Chugh, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Director of Finance for the UVic Personal Finance Club. I am a third-year BCom student with a keen interest in Accounting and Finance. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have cultivated a deep understanding of the field through active involvement in the campus community and participation in various clubs at UVic. The dynamic world of finance has always captivated me, and I am passionate about its potential to drive positive change. I am eager to contribute my insights to the community and to learn from the diverse perspectives that everyone brings to the table. Understanding and effectively managing personal finances can lead to financial stability, security, and the ability to achieve financial goals. I am confident that together, we can create an environment that fosters learning, idea exchange, and mutual growth."

"Hi there! My name is Bianca, and I am a transfer student from Lima, Peru. I arrived in Victoria 7 months ago, and I am currently starting my third year in the BSc in Economics. For me, being part of the Personal Finance Club is a huge opportunity to get more hands-on learning about my career and to be able to help other young people manage their finances. I have realized the importance of our financial and personal decisions for our future. Our world is currently facing a highly uncertain economic cycle, and there is very little information on how to successfully manage our finances while surfing such a wave. We young people tend to think more about how to spend our money in the present, and we don't realize that being patient can bring us more stability and better outcomes in the long run. I am completely sure that together with our team, we will advocate for more awareness of these issues and help students and young people, in general, not only to efficiently make the best decisions possible regarding their future but so that they can achieve their personal goals."
